    DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures at KMCH

    Lumbar puncture

This procedure is primarily used to diagnose serious infections of the central nervous system, such as meningitis and encephalitis. By analyzing cerebrospinal fluid, our specialists can develop precise treatment plans for neurological health.

    Pleural fluid aspiration

A vital procedure performed for both diagnosis and therapeutic relief. It involves removing fluid from the space around the lungs to treat respiratory distress and identify underlying lung-related conditions.

    Liver biopsy

Used to accurately detect and monitor chronic liver diseases and liver cancer. This procedure provides essential tissue samples that help our doctors determine the extent of liver damage or the stage of a malignancy.

    Renal Biopsy
A specialized diagnostic tool used for identifying various kidney diseases. By examining a small sample of kidney tissue, our team can pinpoint the cause of renal dysfunction and tailor effective treatments.

    Pericardiocentesis

A critical therapeutic procedure used to remove excess fluid from the sac surrounding the heart (pericardium). This helps relieve pressure on the heart and improves overall cardiac function.

    Abdominocentesis

Also known as paracentesis, this procedure is used to manage and diagnose fluid accumulation in the abdomen. It provides immediate relief for patients and helps identify the cause of the fluid buildup.
