Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami

Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami is a distinguished doctor, educationalist, and philanthropist. He earned his MBBS and MD from Stanley Medical College, Madras. From 1973 to 1975, he served as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Coimbatore Medical College. In 1975, he moved to the USA for advanced studies, completing higher training in Internal Medicine at Cincinnati, Ohio, and Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, between 1975 and 1978. He further specialized, undertaking a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Wayne State University from 1983 to 1985.
Between 1978 and 1983, he worked as an internist at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Clements, Michigan. Following his fellowship, from 1985 to 1990, he was a staff member in the Hypertension, Obesity, and Risk Factor department at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. During this time, he conceived the ambitious idea of establishing a hospital in India that would rival American standards.
Driven by this vision, he began working on the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) project in Coimbatore starting in 1985. Collaborating with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from the USA, UK, Australia, and the Middle East, as well as individuals from India, he successfully established KMCH. The hospital commenced operations on June 24, 1990, and has since been dedicated to serving the community. What began as a 200-bed facility has grown into an 2250-bed multidisciplinary super-specialty hospital – First Corporate hospital to start a medical college.

Community Service
Beyond his significant contributions to healthcare and education, he actively engages in numerous community services for rural and needy populations. As part of these efforts, KMCH has established six community rural and women's centers to serve the underprivileged.
- During his time in the USA, as a Director of the Tamilnadu Foundation, he initiated the Rural Health and Sanitation program for Tamil Nadu. This included establishing a model sanitary program at Naduvalasu – Nallampatti village in Erode District. To familiarize villagers with proper sanitation, he introduced model latrines and an educational program to encourage the use of footwear and promote clean habits among the residents. His contributions also include donating computers to Government schools and constructing toilets at Board High School Perundurai and other schools in Erode and Coimbatore district.
- Since 1977, he has provided scholarships and awards to students in schools at Nallampatti and Perundurai, and many students receive free education and scholarships in his own educational institutions. He has also played a crucial role in renovating temples, particularly for Dalit communities, in Nallampatti and Thadagam villages, with notable work done at Anuvavi Subramanian Temple and Maruthamalai Murugan Temple. He has received numerous awards from medical, educational, and community organizations for his dedicated service. His overarching mission is to elevate healthcare and education in India to be on par with developed countries worldwide.
