Dr. Gunaseelan K R is a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon with a cardiac surgical career spanning over 15 years, having commenced his training and practice in cardiac surgery in 2009. Over the years, he has gained exposure to more than 5,000 cardiac surgical procedures, encompassing a broad and complex spectrum of adult cardiothoracic and vascular surgery.
He completed his MCh in Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery at the prestigious Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru, one of India’s highest-volume and most respected cardiac centres, renowned for managing advanced and complex cardiovascular disease.
Since 2020, Dr. Gunaseelan K R has been working as an independent consultant, during which period he has personally performed over 2,000 cardiac surgical procedures, reflecting consistent surgical volume, independent decision making, and operative responsibility.
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) constitutes a major component of his surgical practice. He has extensive experience in off pump CABG, on-pump CABG, and total arterial revascularization, including the use of LIMA–LAD and bilateral internal mammary artery grafts. Surgical strategies are individualized based on patient anatomy, comorbidities, and operative risk to achieve optimal short- and long term outcomes.
Aortic surgery is his primary area of interest and expertise. He has been involved in nearly 100 aortic surgeries, covering the full anatomical spectrum from aortic root to aortic bifurcation, including complex thoracic and abdominal aortic pathologies. His aortic practice is supported by regular participation in national aortic conferences and hands-on workshops, ensuring continued exposure to evolving techniques and contemporary best practices.

He has significant experience in complex redo cardiac surgeries, particularly redo valve replacements and valve repair procedures, requiring meticulous surgical planning and advanced operative expertise. His valve practice includes both reparative and replacement strategies tailored to individual pathology and patient factors.
Dr. Gunaseelan K R is also experienced in pulmonary endarterectomy for selected cases of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, as well as the entire spectrum of thoracic (lung) surgeries. In addition, he manages peripheral vascular diseases, providing comprehensive surgical care across cardiothoracic and vascular domains.
