Unique in leadership by a team of women doctors, it creates a compassionate and welcoming environment for every woman. The division provides a one-stop shop for diagnostic and therapeutic breast services, guided by the motto – We Screen – We Diagnose – We Manage. From counseling and screening to diagnosis and treatment, the KMCH Breast Center combines top specialists and advanced technology to offer care and information on par with the best facilities worldwide.

Mammogram – 3D Tomosynthesis and Contrast Enhanced Mammography (Hologic 3 Dimensions)
  • Hologic 3Dimensions provides the fastest tomo/3D scan in the industry, delivering high-resolution images with a lower radiation dose.
  • The smart paddle stabilization system offers maximum patient comfort with unmatched precision.
  • Ability to perform tomosynthesis-guided vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB) and contrast-enhanced mammography biopsy (CEM biopsy).
  • KMCH Breast Center pioneered the use of Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) for local staging of breast cancer in the country and is one of the centers that perform the highest number of CEM and CEM breast biopsies in India.
  • Mammography is also integrated with Artificial Intelligence, which aids in accurate reporting and early diagnosis of breast cancer.
Dedicated Ultrasound for breast with Supersonic Mach 30
  • Ultrafast imaging provides an extremely high frame rate, enabling superior B-mode image quality and improved visualization, thereby aiding the diagnosis and characterization of breast lesions.
  • Shear wave Elastography offers real-time, quantitative assessment of tissue stiffness, aiding in distinguishing benign from malignant lesions.
  • 3D breast imaging enables complete volume assessment and coronal plane visualization, aiding more precise tumour size estimation and margin delineation.
Dedicated Ultrasound for Women’s Imaging with GE Voluson E8
  • The GE Voluson E8's standout feature in gynaecological imaging is its high-resolution 3D/4D visualization with HD live technology. It also includes automated tools for follicle analysis (SONO AVC), uterine evaluation, and infertility assessment, establishing it as a top ultrasound platform for women’s health.
  • The ADNEX Model is a decision-support software designed to evaluate ovarian (adnexal) masses and estimate ovarian cancer risk. It also assists radiologists in distinguishing between benign and malignant ovarian lesions.
State-of-the-Art 3T MRI
Breast MRI

Breast MRI:

Our centre is equipped with a state-of-the-art 3 Tesla MRI system and a dedicated 18-channel breast coil, delivering high-resolution images for accurate breast cancer diagnosis and staging. This advanced technology allows for detailed visualization of breast tissue and enhances the detection of smaller lesions.

Additionally, the MRI system includes a 14-channel breast coil specifically designed for MRI-guided breast biopsies, enabling precise lesion localization and sampling. This facility is unique in South India and serves the entire region via the KMCH Breast Center.

We also provide ultrafast and abbreviated breast MRI protocols that allow for quick imaging while preserving high diagnostic accuracy.

Pelvis MRI:

KMCH women’s imaging uses state-of-the-art 3 Tesla MRI for thorough pelvic evaluations. This advanced imaging method allows for precise detection of gynaecological cancers, detailed visualization of endometriosis, and assessment of uterine fibroids. The high-resolution images produced by 3T MRI provide clear views of the cervix, essential for treatment planning, decision-making, and surgical interventions.
Furthermore, we conduct dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging to evaluate endometrial and ovarian cancers, using standard MRA protocols in accordance with the guidelines set by the European Society of Radiology.

Interventions Performed:

Ultrasound-guided FNAC / Aspiration
Ultrasound-guided breast biopsies
Ultrasound and tomo guided marker placement
Stereotactic breast biopsy
Tomo guided the vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB) of breast lesions/calcifications
Contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) biopsy
Hysterosalpingography / Sono salphingography
Ultrasound-guided transvaginal biopsy of gynaecological lesions
MRI-guided biopsy

Ultrasound and tomo guided wire localisations
Vacuum-assisted excision (VAE) of fibroadenomas
Vacuum-assisted excision (VAE) of B3 lesions
Cryoablation of breast cancer and fibroadenomas

KMCH Breast Center is the first center in India to perform cryoablation for breast cancer, providing a minimally invasive treatment that allows for quicker recovery.
The center leads in Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) guided biopsies, providing highly precise diagnosis of complex breast lesions.
KMCH Breast Center is a leader in MR-guided breast biopsies, providing accurate tissue sampling for improved diagnostic results.
Known for its outstanding screening services, the center has set the record for the most screening mammograms done in a day in India. This notable feat has been officially acknowledged by both “The India Book of Records” and the “Asia Book of Records.”
KMCH Breast Center becomes the inaugural facility in the Asia-Pacific region to host the Hologic Academy for Breast Imaging Training, furthering education and expertise in breast imaging.
The first center in India to offer an exclusive training program in Breast Imaging (FNB), conducted by the National Board of Examinations, starting in 2019.
First center in India to achieve and sustain the highest number of fibroadenoma VAB excisions.
The first center in South India to conduct the highest number of contrast-enhanced mammography procedures.
KMCH is the sole private hospital in India that partners with leading government institutes to publish guidelines on imaging for various gynaecological cancers.

Social Activities:

KMCH Breast Center actively engages in raising public awareness and regularly organizes campaigns, road shows, awareness talks, and mass screening mammography programs annually, particularly in October.

KMCH Breast Center proudly partners with “Project Heal,” a collaborative effort between the Rotary Club of Mettupalayam and KMCH. The initiative carries out mass screenings for breast and cervical cancer through mobile mammography units and Pap smear tests, reaching thousands of underprivileged women around Coimbatore. Additionally, it offers free treatment for women diagnosed with cancer. The primary aim is to lower death rates from breast and cervical cancers by promoting early detection and timely intervention.
